Reading Competition

On behalf of Carmarthenshire Libraries I would like to invite you to participate in the Reading Agency’s Summer Reading Challenge.

This year, the theme is “Silly Squad”, and it will be officially launched on Friday, June 5th 2020, which is earlier than usual due to the Covid19 pandemic. It will run from June to September.

The objective of the challenge is for children to read whatever makes them happy, and to have fun with reading. The Summer Reading Challenge is the biggest initiative to encourage children to read for pleasure. The Agency have recommended a number of suitable books for age ranges 4-7 years old and 8-11 years old, but reading anything that the children will enjoy is just as important. The main requirement is that children read at least 6 books of their own choice over this summer period, and they will receive digital prizes and certificates for doing so.

The Library service is very eager to support you in this exciting challenge. If children are not Library members, they can join online and receive a membership number and PIN number. Using the Borrow Box app it is then possible to download a wide variety of suitable books in order to take part in the challenge.
