Summer Term – Responsibility
Your child will be very busy developing their skills and knowledge in the following Areas of Learning (AoLE):
| Languages, Literacy and Communication (Eng) | Mathematics and Numeracy | Health and Well-Being | Languages, Literacy and Communication (Welsh) |
| Pupils will develop their speaking, listening, reading and early writing skills through stories, role play and meaningful conversations. They will practise writing for real purposes, such as simple instructions, labels and posters to take responsibility for real-life issues, while building confidence in sharing their ideas. | Pupils will explore maths through hands-on, practical activities. They will develop their understanding of number by counting, sorting and comparing, as well as exploring shapes, patterns and measurement. Maths will be linked to real-life experiences, helping children solve problems and make sense of the world around them. We will also begin to explore money and money management through play. | Pupils will learn how to look after their bodies and minds by making healthy choices around food, exercise and rest. They will develop confidence, build positive relationships and learn how to stay safe. A strong focus will be placed on wellbeing, teamwork and developing independence. We will also be looking at the importance of media balance and the benefits of being outdoors. | Alongside this, they will build on Welsh vocabulary and sentences about Parts of the body and In the garden topics looking at minibeasts, their homes and description. We will also be building our incidental Welsh vocabulary throughout our daily routines using the ‘Patrwm yr Wythnos’. |
| Science and Technology | Expressive Arts | Humanities | Other Learning Experiences |
| We will explore the natural world through observation, investigation and outdoor learning. They will learn how to care for plants, animals and their environment, and begin to understand how their actions can make a difference. They will also take part in simple problem-solving and design activities to improve their surroundings such as litter picking and sorting and exploring design ideas for our green space to make real improvements to our class. | Children will use art, music, movement and role play to express their ideas and feelings. They will explore creative ways to share messages about caring for others and the environment, building confidence and imagination through a range of artistic experiences. We will be making art using recycled materials and exploring different artists such as Kadinsky. | We will learn about their local area and community, developing an understanding of how people can help and care for one another and people in the community who can help us. They will explore ideas about fairness, responsibility and belonging, and begin to understand their role in the wider world. We will explore different celebrations around the world and compare these with our own traditions. | Pupils will participate in outdoor learning and improving our school environment through a litter pick around the school grounds and designing new outdoor spaces. They will have visits from community helpers such as Cwm Environmental and HSBC. Walks in our local area and creating posters and performances to share messages about caring for the world. |
Our Curriculum is underpinned by the 4 Core Purposes:

Whilst developing skills in the Areas of Learning identified above, we will also be ensuring that your child develops skills in the Three Cross Curricular Responsibilities:

Above all else, we want your child’s school experience to be happy with engaging activities which will inspire them. This works best when school and home work together. Please approach your child’s teacher or make an appointment if we can help in any way.
Here are some ways that you can help:
READING – the key to everything in school is the ability to read and to foster a lifelong love of it. Please read to, with and also make listening to your child read an enjoyable time and as often as you can. Once your child brings home a reading book, it will need to be returned when your child has completed the book. However please share all ways to read such as leaflets and magazine and log into our Giglets where there is a wide range of books to read and listen to.
PE KIT – PE kit can be worn to school instead of uniform, on your child’s PE day. PE day is Thursday.
FRUIT – being a ‘Healthy School’ we promote eating fruit as a snack. Fruit can be brought in from home and water will be provided in school.
JEWELLERY – may we remind parents / carers that for safety reasons, jewellery should be kept to a strict minimum. Small, stud earrings are permitted.
UNIFORM – we enjoy a sense of belonging by wearing a school uniform every day. Plain black shoes or trainers are fine, as well as plain black or grey jogging bottoms. All items MUST be labelled.
ATTENDANCE – excellent attendance of 95%+ is essential for learning and social success. Please give your child the best chance of making progress by being on time every day. Call the Office if your child is unwell.
COMMUNICATION – classroom staff use ClassDojo to keep parents / carers up to date with class news. Please check it regularly and stay in touch with school throughout the term.
LUNCH – School dinners provide a healthy, balanced meal for pupils each day. If your child brings a packed lunch, please support us by ensuring it is healthy and includes a variety of foods, aiming to include part of their 5 a day. We kindly ask that packed lunches do not include sweets or fizzy drinks
Here’s to another fun and busy term ahead. Remember to follow us on X / Twitter @YsgolMyrddin and we look forward to working with you to support your child.
Diolch yn fawr / Thank you very much,
Miss Prosser
